Role in the Lightbringers’ Campaign
Thadali made his first significant appearance during the Lightbringers’ initial visit to the City of Order. There, he was seated at the right hand of King Hillingham during a royal feast. The two leaders issued a quest to retrieve the sacred sword Clarent from the perilous region of Dalgenen in Ruashoth.
As part of this mission, Thadali placed ethereal rings on each member of the Lightbringers. These magical marks allowed him to monitor their progress and served as enforcement against unlawful actions within Anaar.
Later, in Doveport, Thadali provided key intelligence via Lady Holt concerning the Vistani threat surrounding the city. He continued to aid from afar, offering strategic insight and arcane consultation.
His most dramatic intervention came during the Dalgenen Rescue. As the Lightbringers clashed with the formidable foe Grakos in Castle Ravenloft, Thadali used the rings’ arcane link to teleport into the battlefield. He held Grakos back temporarily to allow for a mass teleportation spell. Tragically, Daevalur Sunmeadow was slain mere moments before the escape. The group was teleported back to Hearthsage Stronghold with the recovered sword, Clarent.
Teleportation & Travel Aid
Thadali’s mastery of teleportation magic has been a cornerstone of the Lightbringers’ strategic success. His ability to move individuals and groups vast distances—sometimes spanning continents—has earned him a reputation as one of the most capable conjurers of his age.
One of the most notable uses of his skill occurred when he teleported the entire party from the City of Order to the outskirts of Merliscire Hold, a jump that defied traditional magical limits. These feats were made possible in part by the enchanted rings he affixed to the adventurers, which acted as arcane anchors for such magic.
Whether for rescue, repositioning, or pursuit, Thadali’s transportation magic has altered the course of multiple adventures.
Project Oversight
While known publicly as a royal advisor, Thadali has also been deeply embedded in secret operations. One such endeavor was the highly classified Project Oversight, conducted in partnership with the drow operative Solas Dalmorrhaine.
Under Thadali’s guidance, the Lightbringers were initiated into this covert organization during their time in Azmarin. Bound magically to secrecy, they were tasked with uncovering and eliminating the leader of the Long Finger Brotherhood, a criminal organization with ties to the City of Anarchy.
The mission required delicate infiltration and subtle elimination, all while maintaining absolute confidentiality regarding the identity of their benefactor. Thadali personally offered a sum of 500,000 gold pieces for the successful execution of this task and for the preservation of his anonymity in the affair.
Through this role, Thadali served as a critical conduit of sensitive information between Solas and King Hillingham, absorbing political and ethical risk on behalf of the Crown.
Background & Appointment
Little is known about Thadali’s early years. According to his own account, he was “assigned to King Hillingham at birth,” suggesting a long-standing and possibly magical bond between the two.
He rose to the role of High Mage of Anaar around 1505 AW and has remained in that position ever since. As High Mage, he serves as:
-
Arcane Advisor to the Crown
-
Head of the Spellcaster Battalion within the Home Guard Regiment
-
Member of the High Council of Anaar
In this capacity, Thadali oversees both civil and military magical affairs, often bridging the gap between political leadership and arcane operations. His long tenure suggests an elven patience and dedication that has helped Anaar maintain its magical supremacy.
Magical Achievements
Orphior Thadali is regarded as one of the greatest magical minds of his age. He earned the title of Archmage in 1466 AW from the prestigious Institute of Magic, citing his exceptional skill across all major schools of magic—particularly conjuration.
His written works have become mainstays in arcane education:
-
Thadali’s Compendium of Dynamic Projections – A definitive text on practical conjuration.
-
Atlas of Endless Horizons – A personal tome reportedly mapping other planes; never published.
-
Three additional educational texts of note, though met with mixed reception.
-
Rumored Collaboration: The Demonomicon of Iggwilv. Though unverified, this potential co-authorship has caused considerable debate among historians and demonologists.
Among his original spell creations, the most famous is Thadali’s Projected Shield, a long-range variant of the classical Shield spell, which can be cast at a distance to defend allies.
His legacy is one of academic excellence, battlefield support, and deep political influence—equal parts scholar, guardian, and operative.
