Blightcall is a kenku from Ruashoth. He is one of the druids associated with the Murder of pestilence. He is a follower of Makohr.

Appearance

Blightcall is dressed in a teared & rotting cloak with hood covered in fungus. He wears a pale leather mask covered with grey mold. His eyes seem almost completely black with only a small spot lighting up in his right eye.

Background

Blightcall grew up in the forest of life. That is where he discovered the druidic magic he possessed and learned how to use their powers. He was fascinated by plants and fruits, but most importantly, fungi and their behavior on dead organisms. Blight’s inexperience and curiosity got the better of him and he ended up intoxicated by a venomous mushroom. Because of the side-effects parts of his body and face have rotted away, around his left eye his feathers became unable to regrow and his eye became infected and blinded.

Lost and alone with nobody to aid him, he thought that this would be his death. He fell to the ground unconscious, squealing for help. However, it was not yet the end for him. When Blightcall woke up he was held by another Kenku, only this one was far larger than him at the time and was able to stop the disease from spreading further and cure his treatable wounds. This Kenku was called ‘Novus’, known to some as the most powerful Kenku to roam the lands. Novus granted Blight the leather mask, restoring his vision and improving his ability to speak. Novus himself wears a similar looking mask only his one is made out of metal.

Novus was able to aid Blightcall, and offered him tutoring, guidance, power, food and a family if he were to join his cult. Blightcall at the time was lost and felt like he could trust him, so decided to give in to Novus’ offer. Thus joining ‘the murder of pestilence’.

Blightcall was first used in the cult as a messenger, as he was able to shapeshift more easily than other members. As the murder usually was very spread out across the lands ,his job was to transfer messages from other members. Later on he would be assisting in robberies and assassinations organized by the cult. While Blight was good at his job he found more comfort in secluding himself and learning about the ways of nature. For his own sake he decided to spend more time observing and learning the magic of spores. After Novus’ tutoring about organics, poison, diseases and decay he found himself to be quite successful in the art. Blightcall decided to specialize in controlling spores. During this time he became obsessed with Fungi and their way of living. Almost delving into madness he saw, of what he thought, was a vision of Makohr. His brain became figuratively infested with the cycle of life and death, and the balance between them. He became so focused on this idea of what Novus had told him about ‘the plague’ and the connection to ‘the cycle’, he became more selfish in his ways and secluded himself even more away from society and the murder.

He wanted to stand for ‘the land’. And oppose those who are unwilling to give back to the land what they take from it. He believed this will ultimately create an endless and balanced cycle of life and death, and that the life that will rise from the death will always be superior than that which came before it. Regardless of its shape or function within nature or the cycle.

Blight was summoned after some time to a small cult meeting where he was criticised for his absence and deviating from the cult’s plans. He was punished and sent on another assassination mission, this time in the City of Anarchy.

They were looking for a way to find a creature known as Vittore ‘’the beast’’ Del Vecchio.

From what Blight and his 2 rogue companions were told they knew he was a werewolf and the head of the longfinger brotherhood, which was a gang in the city who deal with slavery, including Kenku slaves. Novus wanted the group to free the Kenku slaves and, if possible, kill the head of the longfingers. Their objective was to find one of the beasts companions and torture him in order to find out more about his wereabouts. They were successful in finding one of Del Vecchio’s servants and tried to restrain and torture him. However, they were unsuccessful as the longfinger’s cappo transformed into a feral beast, murdering the 2 allied rogues, with Blight barely able to escape into the city

In his dying breath, he crawled through the dark alleys of the city looking for some help, perhaps a sign of the high mistress, anything. Almost fainting from exhaustion and blood loss, he realised this was the second time he was this close to his death. But right at that moment a halfling came to his aid...

Circle of Spores

Blight finds beauty in decay. He sees within mold and other fungi the ability to transform lifeless material into abundant, albeit somewhat strange, life. He believes that life and death are part of a grand cycle, with one leading to the other and then back again. Death is not the end of life, but instead a change of state that sees life shift into a new form.

Druids of this circle have a complex relationship with the undead. Unlike most other druids, they see nothing inherently wrong with undeath, which they consider to be a companion to life and death. However, these druids believe that the natural cycle is healthiest when each segment of it is vibrant and changing. Undead that seek to replace all life with undeath, or avoid passing to a final rest, violate the cycle and must be thwarted.

Beliefs & The Plague

Blight believes by letting the plague (also referred to by him as the ‘great cleansing’) overtake the population, the land will take back what the people have unrightfully taken from it. Yet, in return life will rise from it, but in a different and more perfect form than that what came before it. This does not necessarily mean undead.

Blight is in belief that by letting the plague spread it will put the fate of those who will succumb to the disease in the hands of Makohr. Who in turn will let the cycle continue, only by the life that will rise from the death of the plague will be even better than life before that.
