The circle advocates for the protection of magic in most forms and enforces the Spellbind Concordat, bringing practitioners of magic who do not adhere to the Concordat to arcane justice. The Order of the Magi also act as the leaders of the City of Magic and set the curriculum for the Institute of Magic.

Function[edit]

The Order respond to the largest magical threats on the Material Plane, and dispatch mage hunters to handle lesser threats. Representatives of the City of Magic are present in major regions of the world to work with local law enforcement and monitor for magic usage that breaks the Spellbind Concordat.

The Spellbind Concordat[edit]

The Spellbind Concordat is the treaty that the Order of the Magi follows and enforces to prevent the misuse of weave energy that occurred during the Titanian Era, such as the Planar Schism, from ever happening again. The Concordat is made up of multiple edicts, generally termed the Spellbound Dictums.

The Spellbound Dictums[edit]

"In the eternal interest of expanding the field of magic within our place in the multiverse, we, the Order of the Magi, establish the Spellbind Concordat, with Dictums from which none shall stray. Those arcanists found in violation of the Dictums will be punished by the full extent of this order - beyond the reach of any local law."

  • The Arcane may never be used to connect with, release, or in any other way contact that which lies outside of our multiplanar geography.
  • Though the study of Enchantment will be restricted to none in the interest of magical understanding, the unwilling removal of a being's free will is a violation of The Arcane.
  • Though the study of Necromancy will be restricted to none in the interest of magical understanding, the animation of the dead is a violation of The Arcane through its impact on the Gods
  • The Arcane may never be used to extinguish life on a planar scale. Conversely, The Arcane may never be used to restore life on a planar scale.
  • In accordance with the wishes of Mystra, channeled weave energy must never exceed the rules imposed by Mystra on mortal beings.
